Description

aka my baby

I first came up with Taran in eighth grade, which was about ten years ago. At the time I was VERY much into Yu-Gi-Oh! and most of my characters were heavily influenced by them. Taran was actually kind of a combination of Bakura and Yugi, although he was supposed to be more based on Bakura (especially being British and all, since, y'know, I watched the dub) since Rae was more based on Yugi. I'd like to think now that my design and his character have come far enough that you can't tell, so I'm not embarrassed anymore to admit where my characters have their roots.

Taran and his mother moved to America and the town of Seven Centers (the fictional town where Dream Legends takes place) when he was seven years old. While exploring in their big backyard (like, acres big, the lot where their house is used to be a farmm), Taran ended up falling down a rocky embankment into a sort of cave. He fell unconscious and had a strange, prophetic dream in which a mysterious woman told him that in seven years he and seven others would have to undergo some very difficult trials. She also told him that his would be the toughest of all and gifted/burdened him with psychic powers. Taran has telepathy and telekinesis, but these powers cause him to have terrible, piercing headaches. After starting school in his new country, Taran is befriended by Rae and the gang, and the group stay friends into high school, when the story takes place.

Taran is shy and softspoken, but he also has a cheeky and sarcastic sense of humor that occasionally gets him into trouble. He likes reading and does well in school, and enjoys hanging out and playing games with his friends. He and Rae have mutual crushes on each other but neither one have confessed at the point in the story I've written to.

Originally, Taran had an older brother and his father had gone missing on a trip to the mountains (because apparently everyone's parents ended up being Indiana Jones for some reason). His brother went after him and neither of them came back for years, so he and his mom left to get away from the painful memories. I can't remember much more but it didn't make much sense.

There is a major plot point involving Taran that I have been struggling with for a long time, continuously flopping back and forth or trying to compromise. I know a few of my friends know what it is, but for those of you who don't I don't want to tell you what it is because I do plan to pick up the story again. I hope someday I'll be able to reach a definitive decision on the matter without taking it back...

Age: 14
Birthday: January 11th
Height: 5'00"
Weight: 104 lbs.
What his voice sounds like in my head: Taran is very soft-spoken and has a soft, British/Welsh accent

If you're interested in finding out more about Taran (and haven't read this stuff already), you can read the first few "chapters" of Dream Legends here: chapter one, chapter two, and chapter three. I wrote them about five years ago so they may be in need of rewriting, but I'll get to it eventually. This series was one that, when I came up with it way back in the day, I envisioned as an animated series. With that in mind, I tried to write the chapters like episodes of an animated series...

Cute! It's been a while since I've seen your drawing of Taran. I like the way you drew his shoes, you added in some great details. I'm pretty sure I know the major plot point you are talking about....but I'm keeping my lips sealed for those who don't know! lol
