Visto

To this day, I still haven't decided what his first name is, I just know that Visto is his last name. He's an ex-cop who became a private investigator after a very rattling case involving the murder of his fiancee - Rossa's aunt - by a serial killer his department had dubbed "The Weatherman". The case went cold and remains unsolved. Visto is doing run of the mill PI work with his partner, Arthur Pierce, when Rossa, who is trying to make it as an investigative journalist, approaches him about looking into her aunt's - his fiancee's - murder again because a recent murder leads her to believe that either the killer is still out there or a copycat is on the loose.

Visto is a very private person and doesn't like to talk about his problems or feelings, preferring to deal with things himself. His biggest pet peeve is people trying to tell him how to do his job, and when he and Pierce are working it is always abundantly clear who the senior partner is. Visto has a lot of experience as a detective, and has become pretty jaded toward most things, taking on a pretty pessimistic view of the world. He almost always looks like a film noir detective, dressed in a trenchcoat and fedora and smoking a cigarette - a habit that both his partner Pierce and his niece (for lack of a better term) Rossa are always chastising him and telling him to quit. He enjoys good coffee and jazz music and has a strong disdain for crime dramas. He also doesn't like talking about crime stuff outside of a professional setting, preferring to keep his professional and personal life as separate as possible.

I think when I originally created Visto he was somewhat influenced by Sven Vollfied from Black Cat. He actually is one of the few male characters I have that was intended to be an extension of myself. In fact, all of the characters in his story were supposed to be some facet of my personality. To some extent that's true of all my characters, but Visto is essentially the embodiment of my love for detective stories and mysteries, as well as some of the grouchier parts of my personality.
